Located in the east coast of Sicily, deciding when to go to Catania is not a difficult choice, thanks to its temperate weather.

SUMMER TEMPERATURE AVERAGES
If you are looking for a holiday that allows you to go for a long swim in the crystal-clear water of Mediterranean Sea, or that allows you to sunbathe and discover the city centre in the evening, Catania is the place for you! The summer avarage temperature in Catania ranges from 25°C to 32°C and the hottest months are July and August.
So, even before the official start of summertime, you can spend the whole day relaxing on the beautiful Ognina coast or on the Playa beaches. If you want to have a striking experience, you can also go to Acitrezza and swim among the Faraglioni: big and high cliffs that rise from the water and have mythological origins.
Furthermore, during the right time of the day (I suggest the late afternoon or the early morning), a pleasant summer touristic activity could be strolling around the city centre, enjoying a good handmade ice cream or a refreshing granita.
SPRING TEMPERATURE AVERAGES
Also Spring in Catania has a good weather: from March to May the average temperature fluctuates between 13°C and 20°C. The sicilian climate guarantees sunny and mild days, during which you can go for a walk along the seafront, admiring the view or riding the bycicle on the bike path.
Spring is the perfect season to plan an excursion or to go trekking on the volcano Etna, and it is also the ideal time for sightseeing and enjoying the beautiful places of the town. Villa Bellini is, for example, a flourishing garden in the city centre, a place where I go often to relax and eat a tasty arancino.
WINTER TEMPERATURE AVERAGES
What about the period from October to February? What does Catania offer during these seasons? Indeed, there are many tourists that choose to visit Catania in fall or winter. The average temperature ranges from a low of 10°C to a high of 22°C.
The sun is still present during these seasons, because the winter in Catania is not very cold and it seldom rains. For this reason, tourists can fully enjoy their holiday, without metereological complications. Moreover, at lower temperatures, it is more plesant to visit the city centre on foot.
In winter, between January and February, you could go for a trip on the snow-capped Etna or become, from the 3rd to the 5th February, the spectator of one of the most famous christian celebration: the one in honour of Saint Agata, the patron saint of Catania.
